Administrative Support, Consulting and Training was born out of a mixture of the changes in the way we do ministry combined with my unique skills and abilities to offer high-quality, professional work at a lower cost.  As it was revealed to me of the privilege for us to serve in Jesus’ administration!  The spiritual gift of administration is the ability to turn God-given vision into reality.  The word administration comes from the Latin and literally means “to” (ad) “minister”.  To administer is to do ministry.  Paul lists it as one of the crucial gifts for building up the church so it must have been thought of as being quite crucial.  The Spirit equips us with the ability to make things happen and to help ministry-life flourish.  So let’s not belittle it, it is hugely important and an active part of what the Holy Spirit isdoing in our midst.

Understanding that we are carrying out work as part of a team to build up the Kingdom of God. Administrative support service in the body is more than a role or a job description.  As we offer our time in His service, we find ourselves alongside Him as co-workers.  This catapulted me into the decision to take full stock of my Skills and my Passions.  Believing that those two things not only could go hand-in-hand but that they should, I began re-thinking what this ministry “a gift”  should look like.  What I found was that I excelled and enjoyed organization, administrative support, continuing to learn leadership & ministry, training & development, details, and planning for ministries, churches, and organizations.

Kubernesis, was then birthed to Guide Ministries to excellence through the gift of administration.

Kubernesis [koo-ber'-nay-sis] – n: “to steer, guide or govern” (Greek)

The term kubernesis comes from the Greek description of piloting a ship with a rudder. The helmsman was charged with directing the ship and guiding it to its intended destination. It required great skill and experience to navigate and to bring the ship through storms.

Metaphorically the word is used to describe clever direction, and the knowledge and insight needed to order the affairs of the church. It requires wisdom and understanding to find right direction to make difficult decisions and lead others in the main task.

If the church’s mission is making disciples, kubernesis involves applying appropriate knowledge and making wise decisions that will lead the church in fulfilling the Great Commission.
